Jozani Biosphere Village Lodge & Restaurant
Welcome to a unique eco-cultural experience near Jozani–Chwaka Bay National Park
About Us
Jozani Biosphere Village (JBV), in partnership with Hakito Green House Farming (HAGREFAM), is a family-founded enterprise rooted in the heart of Zanzibar’s pristine natural environment—just steps away from the world-renowned Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park and Biosphere Reserve.
Born out of resilience and innovation, our venture emerged when traditional farming became impossible due to wildlife-human conflict with the red colobus monkeys, a rare and protected species found only in Zanzibar. Rather than give up, our family transformed this challenge into an opportunity—building a sustainable, eco-conscious business model that combines organic farming, poultry rearing, tourism, and hospitality. Today, JBV and HAGREFAM offer a unique experience that blends local culture, conservation, and community development. We grow fresh organic vegetables, breed poultry, produce natural fertilizers, and welcome guests to enjoy traditional Zanzibari meals and eco-lodge accommodation. Our restaurant and lodge are designed to serve both local and international visitors seeking authenticity, nature, and warm hospitality. Our Mission
To be a leading community-driven enterprise in eco-tourism, organic agriculture, and sustainable hospitality in Zanzibar.
What Makes Us Unique:
• Eco-Focused: We practice climate-smart agriculture and eco-tourism to protect Zanzibar’s natural beauty.
• Community-Based: We involve locals in every aspect—from farming to hospitality—ensuring inclusive growth.
• Fresh & Organic: From farm to table, our guests enjoy fresh vegetables, free-range poultry, and meals made from local ingredients.
• Cultural Experience: We showcase the rich traditions, customs, and lifestyle of rural Zanzibar to every guest. Whether you’re stopping by for a freshly prepared local meal, spending a night in our eco-lodge, or exploring the Jozani forest, JBV offers more than just services—we offer a story of hope, sustainability, and connection to the land
